recently an episode of the E! network’s hit show, “true hollywood story,” explored the lives of rap wives.  while everyone has a different story–starting with the progression from groupie, high school sweetheart, or even the gyrl from ’round the way to wife(y) –one thing is clear…the lives that every wife lives has its ups and downs, just like everyone else.

the story of mos def’s wife was most intriguing.  she has lived as a groupie, stripper, bottom chick, and now estranged wife of mos def….but that is not the intriguing part.  the intriguing part is that mos def chose her, unaware of her past, and decided that she was worthy of being his “rib.” however, when the truth surfaced, and the corresponding label of “gold digger,” only then did he reconsider the woman that he had given his name.  only then did he consider that he was a poor schmuck that had gotten caught up with the wrong gyrl, and now has to make amends to his family, friends, and fans.

now, everyone, no matter who you are or where you live, has seen a rap video or two…these days, they are all pretty much the same…gyrls  twerkin and droppin the proverbial “it” like its hot, scantily clad women circling the rapper as if  in worship of his lyrical prowess–you know the drill.  one might think that these rapper wives were by-products of the lifestyle portrayed in the video…  perhaps she is the wife because she twerked it the best or dropped it the hottest…especially when you consider the wife of one of the most lewd, loud and blatantly lascivious rappers.

why, “uncle luke” of course.

who does not remember the ways of the 2 live crew, forget the ways–who can forget the videos? then came the porn and now the strip clubs.  by all estimation, one would assume that mrs. uncle luke must be some under-dressed and definitely over-sexed bimbo who does everything the gyrls in the video do–publicly and privately.

well, before nodding your head in agreement, consider this: while, luther campbell (uncle luke) has no shame in the sexual exploits demonstrated by his fellow members of the 2 live crew, his best-selling porn videos and his popular miami strip club, he made a statement during the episode that more men should take heed to:

“you don’t marry the gyrls in the video…”

and he meant that… mrs. uncle luke, as previously used to reference the woman married to the man is a  beautiful, dual-degreed african-american woman, with the ability to bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and build an empire to sell the product.  she is a business woman as well as an attorney, and currently works as general counsel for the corporation that supports luke’s business ventures.

wow!

perhaps at 47, luke is wiser (and, definitely older) than most.  while many men have not only dated but wife’d the “woman in the video,” he teamed up with a woman that could be a partner and a companion–not just (arm or eye) candy.

nothing against the other wives that were featured on the show–but the campbells had this author at hello.

my only hope is that others may take a moment and learn this “lesson.”

twerkin’ and droppin’ “it” can only get you so far, at the end of the day, a real man should want a woman who is equipped to not only dip it low, but help him bring things to another level.
