boissuq replay: Lessons from Grade School

Seventh grade… a friend that I made in the fifth grade developed a crush on me.  He took a lot of time and courage to pen a letter acknowledging how his feelings for me at that time.

His mistake… he delivered the note by messenger.  His messenger approaches me and hands me the note before the morning bell.  I immediately turn and discarded it into a large barrel trash can in the court yard; letting him know that I did not need to read the letter because there was no way… He cuts me off in mid-sentence saying, “It’s not from me, it’s from *classmates name*.  Yes, I know, that was a bit harsh, and I am still reaping bad relationship karma from my actions many years later.

Twelfth grade… the young man that once had a crush on me has now become the messenger.  He approaches me saying, “My boi wants to know what’s up.”  My response, “Then your boy needs to come and ask me himself.”   His boi took on my challenge,  he immediately walked over to me, and soon there after we found ourselves referring to each other as “boifriend and girlfriend.”

So then his boi, the guy that had a crush on me five years earlier, informs me that his feelings were hurt, because I never even considered the possibility with him…

He was right.  I did not ever consider him a viable candidate, but he was mostly to blame because he never approached me.  He let another boi take care of his business…maybe he thought I would read his letter, and immediately be won over.  Yes, I realize that writing your feelings on paper is not an easy task; yet things did not play out the way that he planned, and he just let that be the end of it.  We still went on, being friends, and he never made his feelings known.  Yet somehow I became the bad guy, because he felt that I chose his friend over him.  I am not saying that his stepping up would have changed things, but then again, we will never know.

Moral of this story kids…

Be you own messenger.

And its a shame that men today still use messengers and this is not grade school or high school. Very good post. Hopefully the bois will read it and take note.

@TheCubicleChick,

so true, and as adults, it seems harder for many of us to own up to our feelings.
